How to write an article

Articles should generally be written with a tone similar to a ritual, creepypasta. Think something like 11 miles or channel infinity. A somewhat informal tone that directly addresses the reader (second person: using the word "you"). A sort of guide to follow. If it is possible to encounter the anomaly, the way to do so should be stated, even if it is exceedingly dangerous. If it is something deadly, writing it as a survival guide may be appropriate. The idea of an article as a "guide" may not apply to all anomalies though, such as things that manifest randomly or something more ephemeral like lost media. Regardless, the "creepypasta tone" should usually be kept.

Also, the fictionalized writer of an article can be shown to add personal flourishes to their writing, occasionally using the word "I" to refer to themselves. This should not be overused though as it blurs the line between an article and an experience.

How to write an experience

Experiences are first person descriptions of an anomaly. Think r/nosleep. Several experiences can be added as addendums to an articles. An article may have a section specifically to chronicle shorter experiences of about a paragraph. Longer experiences can be given their own articles.

How to write a tale

Tales are just stories taking place in the shared universe we are building, except that they are written out of universe while articles and experiences are generally written as in-universe documents. Often times, an article may primarily serve as background for a tale while the tale acts as the primary work of art. This is 100% acceptable. In such cases, it may make sense to hyperlink a tale to a notable passage in the article.

How to write a reality

Reality pages are written in-universe, albeit, not in the primary universe of unexplained mysteries. They allow for more freedom than would be allowed for normal articles. Generally speaking, the universe of unexplained mysteries is quite similar to our own, with the exception of the fictional anomalies we create. Reality pages take place in an entirely different world that may go down an entirely different path. There should usually be at least one normal article that links a reality to the "main" universe that this wiki follows, though this is not expressly mandatory. Such an article may simply be an origin story for how the reality based articles entered our own universe and were then added to the database. That said, it is not required that reality based pages conform to the rules of the main database.

Whenever a new reality is created, a hub page should be made to keep track of all articles written under it as well as any associated tales. Realities are also encouraged to have their own custom CSS themes to differentiate them from the rest of the site. A trend towards a sort of textual analog horror is encouraged. It is our hope that unexplained mysteries will evolve into a multimedia project and that the reality section of our website will provide a basis for analog horror series.
